Freie Universität Berlin has four main campuses. To help you find your way around, we have compiled brief descriptions, addresses, and maps of the four main campuses and other important institutions.
Central Services
The campus dining facilities provide more than just healthy food at reasonable prices. Ristorante Galieo, an Italian restaurant in the main campus complex in Dahlem, offers student discounts on select meals. It also does catering on and off campus and has a separate conference/seminar room. The Language Center offers classes in German as a second language, as well as numerous other languages. (The latter require knowledge of German as the language of instruction.)
Computing Services (ZEDAT) on the Dahlem campus provides computer and network-based services for students and staff. The Center for Digital Systems (CeDiS), e-learning and multimedia competence center of Freie Universität Berlin, advances and supports the use of new media and social software in education and research.
The Center for Academic Advising and Counseling Service is open to prospective students and those who are already enrolled.
The library system of Freie Universität Berlin comprises the University Library and around forty departmental libraries with total holdings of around 8 million printed items, 38,000 e-journals, 400,000 e-books, and 1250 databases. In addition library users can find and access vast numbers of electronic resources via the Library Portal.
Recreation
Botanic Garden
Located near the Dahlem campus, the Botanic Garden and Botanical Museum (BGBM) is part of Freie Universität. The Botanic Garden has one of the widest varieties of plant species in the world and attracts about 300,000 researchers and visitors annually. No admission is charged for students of biology and pharmacy at Freie Universität Berlin.
Fitness
The Center for Recreational Sports offers opportunities for members of Freie Universität to participate in roughly 150 different types of sports from aerobics to yoga. You can sign up for classes online, but you have to be quick because space is limited and the courses are quite popular. Additionally, several student sports clubs are active on campus.
Music
Students, faculty, and staff interested in playing in an orchestra may find an opportunity through Collegium Musicum, Orchester Benjamin Franklin (UKBF), or the Youth Orchestra of Freie Universität Berlin.
International Club
Would you like to make friends fast? Then join the International Club! It has more than 300 members from all continents, with an even balance between German and foreign members. The International Club membership includes students, Ph.D.s, university staff, and friends of Freie Universität, who are all committed to promoting intercultural understanding and friendship.
