Junior Researchers
Supporting junior researchers is a priority at Freie Universität Berlin. This extends from providing outstanding conditions and research facilities to a research support service and assistance with more practical matters.
Support Programs
To support young researchers in the period following their doctorate, Freie Universität Berlin has set up various internal support programs. In addition, there are numerous external support programs available to early career researchers.
Junior Research Group Leader
By establishing junior research groups, the university offers outstanding young scholars the opportunity to conduct independent research and build up their own working groups. In recent years, a number of funding institutions have established programs of this kind that include participation from researchers at Freie Universität Berlin.
Junior Professors
Junior professorships were introduced in Germany in 2002 to encourage promising young researchers to pursue an academic career in Germany. The appointments are for a maximum of six years.
Research Support Service
Freie Universität Berlin's research division advises members of the university in matters of support for research, junior scholars and scientists, and business startups, as well as in procedures regarding the application for and administration of external funds. This division also offers services in the areas of patents and licenses, and in contract management.
Dual Career Support
Freie Universität Berlin is closely involved in the Berlin Dual Career Network. Its purpose is to find effective ways to assist the spouses and partners of faculty and staff to secure area employment.
